About

First opened in 1979, and gradually expanding ever since, the volunteer-run museum occupies a large site on the outskirts of Brodick.

A number of buildings provide extensive coverage of Arran-specific subjects including Geology, Archaeology, Social History, Farming, Arran Clearances, and Wartime Arran. See also thr Blacksmith’s Shop, 19th Century Cottage, 1940s School Room, and Farm Implements Shed.

Every Wednesday of the year the Genealogy and Archives departments are fully staffed to deal with enquiries and assist researchers. Special events programme throughout spring and summer on the museum lawn, and local specialists give regular talks on Arran’s unique Geology and Archaeology.
