Do you remember when we posted about our lovely model ship of the frigate Caledonia going for preservation? Built in 1804 by William Dunlop:
“as thanksgiving for his survival during the Napoleonic Wars, was displayed in the Ardrossan Parish Church in Saltcoats until 1908, when it was moved to St Cuthberts Church. Where it was displayed until very recently, when the church sadly closed its doors; the model was then donated to the North Ayrshire Heritage Centre, which is on the site of the old Ardrossan Parish Church.”

The model has been at AOC Conservation since March and they have posted a wonderful blog post documenting the conservation process.
Starting with a detailed assessment of the model, including checks for loose parts, conducting cleaning tests and checking the integrity of the structure itself. Then, the preservation and conservation process began. From rigging and guns, to the flags and a custom mount!
