Description:

A clock made by Thomas Sandford of Stevenston. Presented to Scoutmaster Robert Thompson on 8th September 1926 on the occasion of his marriage from the officers and boys of his troop. It was donated to the North Ayrshire Museum by his daughter Miss J. D. Thompson in 1998.

The clock has a mahogany case and mahogany surmount decorated with three ovals. On its front is a hinged glass door split into three panes. The dial is metal with Arabic numerals and has two keyhole for the clock spring and the bell spring. The pendulum is made of wood and brass.

Robert Thompson was master of No.11 Ayrshire boy scouts in Stevenston. The Scout movement started in 1908 in Great Britain by Lieutenant General Robert S. S. Baden-Powel. That year he had written a book 'Scouting for Boys' which described tracking and reconnaissance activities such as mapping, signalling, knotting, first-aid and camping.
