Alan McInally was born in Ayr on the 10th of February, 1963. He was the son of Jackie McInnally, who had played in Kilmarnock’s title winning team from 1965.
He began his football career with Ayr Utd in 1980, playing over 90 games for the club before moving to Celtic in 1984 for a fee of £90,000. He made his debut for Celtic on the 11th of August, 1984 against Hibs. Known as ‘Rambo’ by the Celtic fans, he would go on to score 22 goals in 85 appearances for the club.
He departed Celtic in 1987 and moved to Aston Villa, helping them win promotion in 1988 and later he moved to Bayern Munich in 1989, winning the Bundesliga in the 89/90 season. He stayed in Germany for 4 years and retired after a brief spell with Kilmarnock in 1993/94.
McInally played 8 games for Scotland, including being part of the squad which took part in the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
