Jim Stewart was born in Kilwinning on the 9th of March, 1954.

His football career, in the position of goalkeeper, started with Troon F.C. in 1970 before moving to his boyhood club of Kilmarnock F.C. in 1972. He played for them until 1977, making 136 appearances for the club before moving to Middlesborough.

After 3 years at Middlesborough, he moved back to Scotland and joined Rangers in 1980. He would stay for 4 years, making 55 appearances for the club.

Jim earned 2 caps for Scotland and was included in the squad for the 1974 FIFA World Cup.

Following his retirement, he was a goalkeeping coach for 20 years. Coaching at Hearts, Rangers, Kilmarnock and also being part of the Scottish national team setup under Gordon Strachan in 2013.

His love of football runs in the family: his son Colin also played for Kilmarnock and his daughter-in-law Julie Fleeting is the all-time leading goal scorer for the Scotland Women’s National Team.
