In this fascinating interview, Ian McCallum tells the story of the crash, what went wrong and what happened to the crew. Then, he passes to his father John, who was a young boy on the night of the crash, who shares what it was like that night and what happened.
This is a fascinating bit of Saltcoats and North Ayrshire history and we are hugely grateful to John and Ian McCallum for agreeing to be interviewed.
Ian has been a driving force in raising awareness of the tragic crash. He brought the story to our attention and has shared his research with us.
Sadly, John died in 2025 at the age of 97. We are glad his memories are preserved in this interview for current and future generations to learn from.
