Our collection of chains of office from the past is really quite special.

We hold district council chains from many of our North Ayrshire Towns, and coats of arms and symbols from the towns’ heritage have been incorporated into the chains.  The Largs chain even has the names of past provosts engraved on it.

These special objects are a link to the past, when each town was run by its own Council.  Through from the 1920s onwards, the system of government in Scotland has changed numerous times and significantly until our present day system where we have one North Ayrshire Council which comes with its own chain of office.
