The 6th of June, 1944 saw the largest combined naval, air and land invasion in human history taking place in the north of France, which ultimately led to the defeat of Nazi Germany and the liberation of Europe from occupation.

The D-Day landings, part of Operation Overlord, were led by the UK, USA and Canada and featured troops from multiple Allied nations. Among those troops were men from North Ayrshire and here we have created a memorial to those who died during the course of the invasion.

The British Normandy Memorial

“The British Normandy Memorial bears the names of 22,442 individuals: British personnel and those of other nationalities who were serving in British units, who died while taking part in D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. This includes people from more than 30 different countries.”
